                                                                                                                             La Molina, February 21, 2013

Dear Boxberger, Mckay Raymond

The Lima Peru Missionary Training Center (MTC) is located in the La Molina District of Lima. Missionaries from Spanish speaking countries who will serve in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador receive two weeks of training along with native Peruvian missionaries who are waiting for visas to enter other countries.  Also native English speaking missionaries arrive directly for 6 weeks of training.  The teachers are recently returned native speaking missionaries who are well versed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Preach My Gospel and the Eight Fundamentals.  Each missionary will have many practice teaching opportunities to help him learn how to recognize and teach by the Spirit and to ask inspired questions in order to fulfill the missionary objective of inviting others to come unto Christ.  It is a time of great spiritual growth, intense training as well as accelerated Spanish learning for those learning the language. As much as possible, a native English speaking missionary will have room assignments with native Spanish speaking missionaries with the intent that to increase his Spanish speaking ability.  In addition to the classroom instruction, there will be opportunities to have infield proseliting and activation experiences.

A great preparation for the MTC experience is a consistent study program of the scriptures,Preach My Gospel as well as exchanges with the full time missionaries. Because the Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion, we encourage each missionary to read the entire Book of Mormon and personally apply the promise in Moroni 10:4-5 before arriving at the MTC.

The following will be helpful to remember:
1.       Bring current email address to communicate with your family and US stamps if you will send letters through the pouch.  To mail items, the Peruvian mail, Serpost, can also be used but it is inconvenient and not reliable. Because of the cost and time to receive packages, we discourage family and friends from sending them to the Peru MTC.
2.       Bring all clothing and supplies listed in your call packet.
3.       Wherever possible be endowed before you arrive and bring your recommend.
4.       Money brought to the MTC should be American dollars or Peruvian Nuevo Soles.
5.       If used, credit/debit cards should be approved for international charges

Lima is a very modern city and almost anything you need can be purchased here at prices comparable to US prices.  The Peru MTC campus is beautiful and the weather is great.

The Peru MTC experience is unique. We anxiously await your arrival.  The Lord will bless you and your family as you faithfully serve in this great cause.

Sincerely,

President                                                                                President´s wife

On preparation days missionaries can email their family, so make sure to bring a current email address for your family.  Serpost, the regular Peruvian mail, can be used to send regular mail items, but it is very inconvenient.   Missionaries can send letters to the United States via the “pouch”, but the letters require an appropriate US stamp and we do not have nor sell US stamps.  Because of cost and time, we encourage family and friends NOT to send packages to the Peru MTC. Also, missionaries may attend the temple on preparation days, but it should be noted that those who arrive without being endowed must be prepared to wait up to one week before going to the temple.  All missionaries arriving at the Peru MTC should bring their money in Peruvian Nuevo Soles or American dollars. If a debit or credit card will be used, make sure it is approved for international charges and is from a well known international card company.
